Hakijamii carried out a research study to examine the effect of Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) project on economic and socio-cultural rights of the communities living along the project corridor in Isiolo County. The project which is part of Kenya’s Vision 2030 program is planned to cover 1700 km from Lamu to Southern Sudan. It consists of two features; a 500m wide corridor to accommodate a power line, road, pipeline and industries to be constructed at intervals of 50km on both sides.
The study established that the communities along the project corridor had not been sensitized about the project. It also established that the mega projects had not enhanced any basic social services. For the full report click here
